Oh my, what a bad, bad LJ poster I've been lately. And because Christmas is around the corner, I thought I'd make up for my naughty ways and post something extra nice for everybody. Last night, I went to a karaoke bar with a couple roommates and friends and I had an absolute BLAST! Let me tell you all about it....

We got there around 9:45 pm and found a nice table right near the stage (you know what they say, 'location, location, location'). The first singer we were treated to also happened to be a god. His name was Frank. My god, I fell in love with him instantly. He had chestnut-brown wavy, gorgeous, soooo touchable hair, really sexy glasses displaying delicious chocolate-brown eyes, and don't even get me started on his outfit. He just looked really GUHHHHH in a sophisticated sort of way. Then I heard his voice. I literally had a karaokegasm. His voice is like a combination of Mike Kogel from Los Bravos and Tom Jones. It's freaking phenomenal. I was just glued to him the entire time. I turned to everyone at my table and said, "That's him. THAT is my future husband." They all nodded in agreement.

After he finished I was conveniently at the 'karaoke table' flipping through the song binder and I said to him, "Wow, that was fantastic! You have a great voice!" He smiled and thanked me, then returned to his seat at the bar - yep, I was watching. I quickly made my song selections and plotted my next move concerning Frank. I was determined to - at the very least - get a duet out of him.

Let's talk about the Walmart ladies. There was a group of about eight loud, crazy, wickedly fun gals at the table next to ours. We all quickly became friends and were each others biggest cheerleaders. They were godawful singers, but they sure did have fun butchering several classic songs.

Then there were my number one fans: Roman and Brian. I'd say Roman was probably pushing 50, and Brian was early to mid 40s. I'm a very supportive person, so no matter who was on stage, I'd always cheer and clap for them. Brian and Roman both performed at least 8 or 10 songs. Whenever either of them were on stage, they just latched onto me and were practically serenading me, sometimes playing the air guitar to give their performances the 'wow' factor. Neither of them were especially great, but I couldn't help but love them.

The first song I sang was a duet with my friend, Emma. She chose 'Don't Stop Believing'. We really got the crowd into it and had so much fun. I had to add extra volume in effort to drown out Emma's voice, but to give the girl credit, she didn't do too badly. From there I went solo with 'Bette Davis Eyes'. I promised Pooh I'd sing her a song, and I figured that was appropriate. ;) Everyone loved it! That's when Roman and Brian first realized there was a new karaoke queen in the house.

Meanwhile, Frank (lest we forget about Frank) ... I couldn't stop staring at him from across the room. He got up to sing a Chicago song (which he totally nailed!) and my mind was settled. I was put under a spell by his voice. As soon as he was finished, I followed him back to the bar, introduced myself, and asked him if he'd be interested in singing a duet with me. Then he introduced me to his boyfriend. Doh! Of course, he had to be gay. Still, I wanted to sing with the man. I left him with a few options to choose from and he told me he'd get back to me ... which he never did. I'm guessing boyfriend wasn't too keen on the idea. Whatever. He was still nice to look at, and damn the man can sing.

The next song I sang was a Whitney Houston special: 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody'. Again, people were really digging the song, especially the lady running the show. She told me I had a great voice. :D

Brian sang again. Roman sang again. Then a new guy came on the scene. His name was Cal. He quickly took a liking to my friend, Virginia, and me. He started out at a table across the room from us and little by little drifted closer, somehow ending up at a table right beside ours. Cal was rather short, but he was sorta cute and he was a pretty decent singer. Both Virginia and I scored numbers from him, but I don't think either of us will be calling him. Poor Cal.

I felt like taking things to the next level and chose a little Madonna action to set the room on fire. I sang 'Like a Prayer' and I believe it was my official 'breakout' performance. I scored another number after that song. A guy named John who was sitting at a nearby table had his eyes on me the entire time. He wrote down his name and number on the back of a 'karaoke song card' and slipped it to me. I tucked it into my purse, knowing that Johnny boy would never be hearing from me, but still feeling damn good all the same. He just wasn't my type. Enough said.

Emma and I sang 'Umbrella' next. A bit of a disaster, actually. We couldn't hear the music very well and were completely off-key for the first minute or more. But we turned things around and finished strongly. I definitely needed redemption after that performance, though.

Roman sang again. Brian sang again. Cal sang again. Frank disappeared. The Walmart ladies sang. I sang 'You Can Call Me Al'. I freaking love Paul Simon, but my voice doesn't love him as much. It wasn't a terrible performance, but I definitely didn't want to leave it on that note.

Brian sang again. Roman sang again. The Walmart ladies sang again. I decided to end the night with some 'Chiquitita' inspired by Mags. Everyone got SO into this song! It was amazing! I think we just all needed some serious ABBA intervention. A table of really cute boys were cheering me on the whole way through. The Walmart ladies got up and danced. Roman and Brian were waving their hands in the air. My friends were clapping and whistling. Just amazing. I got quite an ovation for that one.

There was still about 20 minutes remaining before karaoke time was over. My friend, Virginia, and I were the only ones left at our table. I refused to miss any of the action. I am nothing if not a dedicated karaoke artist and supporter. The table of really cute boys got up to sing Robbie Williams' 'Angels'. They did a damn good job! The only people that were still in the bar at that point were the drunkest of the drunk and the devoted karaoke fans, so EVERYBODY was having a great time! Me, Virginia, and the Walmart ladies had moved to the front of the stage and were all swaying together. We totally bonded.

Brian sang for the last time. Roman sang for the last time, and Roman's song was a nice, slow song. He smartly pointed out to the cute boys that there were some really cute girls dancing all by themselves next to the stage. The cutest of the cute boys quickly sprang from his chair and started dancing with me. Virgina hooked a super cute boy too. I found out from my guy, Ryan, that he was a Brock University student as well, and he's on the varsity soccer team! Score! We had a nice chat, he spun me around quite a lot, there were a couple badly timed dips, but all in all, a very successful and enjoyable dance.

At 1:40 AM, the karaoke plug was pulled and the party was over. There were hugs and handshakes all around. I stopped by the cute boy table and gave Ryan the hug he was gesturing for. I also said, "So, hey, let me know if you ever wanna hang out sometime." He seemed very interested in that idea, so we exchanged facebook info. Ryan is definitely getting a second chance. :)

To sum things up: that was honestly one of the best nights I've ever had. It was such an incredible atmosphere, there were so many characters and so much singing and happiness and entertainment. I'm still giddy! I'll most certainly be going back for some more karaoke action in the New Year. Hope you all enjoyed my (insanely long) recap, and Happy Holidays to you! ♥

It sounds like a fabulous time. I Love the Walmart ladies. I want to be their friend too. See us old folks know how to work it. Go Roman and Brian!
Why did I just know that Frank was guy? But, who cares? Ryan is the cutest of the cute boys. You'll have to invite Brian and Roman to the wedding since they suggested the dancing.
