OMG, the date. I always used to say, "You know, I'd be the happiest woman alive if I could find the male me, because I love myself!" True story. Well, last night, I think I found myself. The male me, I mean. How did I find him? That's a long story that I'm gonna try to condense into three easy-to-read sentences. Over the Christmas break I joined eHarmony during their 'free communication' weekend and I only made it to the final stage of communication with one seemingly awesome guy. He loved sports, being active, and enjoying life; he looked for the good in every person and in every situation; and he was trying to find a partner in crime. Just like me. So we went to town getting to know each other via email, facebook, and online chats, and we finally set up a date for last night. Like a real, live date. Uh-huh.

So Dylan (yes, his name is Dylan. I may also refer to him as Dill Pickle, Dilly Bar, or the Dylanator) arrived at my place right on time and was thrilled that I introduced him to my roommates. One thing that really impressed me was how comfortable he was chatting with them and getting to know them. He was so interested in what they had to say, and he contributed a great deal to the conversation. I know some guys who grunt a greeting and retreat back into their internal man cave as fast as possible. Dilly Bar was not like that at all. But he eventually informed me that we had to be on our way because he made a reservation. Yay! We like that!

He opened the door for me to slide into his sexy red Ford Focus, but I couldn't get in right away. Why? Because there was a 'present' for me on the seat. Let me digress here for a minute and let you know what we had planned for the date. We decided, since we're both sports nuts (and wingnuts, lol), that we'd go to a local sports bar restaurant called Jack Astor's and get some wings and watch the Maple Leafs hockey game. So my present happened to be a classic blue Gary Roberts Leafs jersey that the Dylanator was going to let me borrow for one night only. lol. It was a really cute gesture. So right off the bat, the lucky bugger got a strip tease from me. I whipped off my lovely red snowflake sweater in the frosty -10 air and pulled on my jersey. He had on a white jersey to go with mine. We looked disgustingly adorable.

Dill Pickle is so unlike any guy I've ever dated before, and he's so insanely mature for his age. Yeah-huh. He might be around 3 years younger than me. We talked and talked in the car on the way to the restaurant. Talking was never an issue for us. We're both big talkers and we had lots to say. But the questions he asked me, and the responses he gave throughout the night were just so far beyond impressive and perfectly in tune with my thoughts and feelings. He was a gentleman at every point--opening doors for me, taking my jacket, walking in step with me--which, sadly, is also pretty unusual in this day and age, but I'm the kind of girl who very much appreciates a little special treatment.

We had the COOLEST booth in the restaurant. There were like 8 mini TVs surrounding us, all with the hockey game on them. And you know what? I don't think we saw more than five minutes of the game. We were THAT into ourselves. :P Oh, and the food. Guhhhh. The food was wickedly good. We got our special wings and some garlic bread. The garlic bread at Jack Astor's is like no other. It's seriously orgasmic.

After we stuffed ourselves and were too ill to watch the Leafs give up another goal (Damn them! I was wearing a jersey and everything!), Dilly Bar took me on a drive to Niagara on the Lake, his hometown. If you've never been, it's absolutely gorgeous there, with big, beautiful homes and the cutest downtown area. And because we're a couple of wingnuts, we decided to go for a walk in the freezing cold. We held hands. There might have been some skipping involved. We went right down by the lake, which was even MORE freezing, but that's where Dilly took a picture of me in my jersey so I'd have a memento of the night. We practically sprinted back to his car to warm up, and he drove past his house to show me where he lived. Then we made the obligatory Tim Horton's stop. I got a small coffee/hot chocolate mix, and he got a large steeped tea, and we talked and talked and talked for another two hours. We also played a 'Name that Tune' game with the songs playing on the radio. I will give the Pickle props. He did surprisingly well. Our conversation quickly turned to movies, and I learned that he loves Robin Hood (the Kevin Costner version) as much or more than I do. We quoted lines like the uber-geeks we are, and we even hummed parts of the score. lol. We're total Kevin Costner junkies. I finally found someone else who likes Water World!

We were back in his car when the clock struck 12:12, so I chair danced for him (which he thoroughly enjoyed). As he pulled back into my driveway, I noticed my baby (Forrest, my Ford Windstar van) was covered in snow, and I couldn't let him freeze all night like that. So the Dylanator offered to brush him off with me. They totally bonded; you could tell. Then came the goodnight kiss (or kissES). Yep, he kissed me a couple times, and we hugged, and again it was nauseatingly adorable. He also calls me Jewels. I didn't mention that yet, but I think it's cute. Dilly Bar already has the next four or five dates planned. He wants to show me his movie collection. I think that's code for . . . showing me his movie collection. But I love that he has so many passions in his life. Oh! At one point during our conversation he used the term 'passionate speak'. He calls them his PS moments, and he tosses them in at random intervals. What a weirdo. *giggles*

Anyway, wow. We had a really, really good time, and I'm excited to get to know him better. As soon as he sends me my jersey pic I'll share that too. There. All done. *collapses* :D

You really did find the male you. I'm glad you appreciated the gestures because you are correct, sadly sometimes that is lacking. It sounded like a fun evening and that you two hit it off really well. Did you have to refer to the practice convos in your head? I'm thinking not. I hope I get to hear about forecoming dates.

Yay! Yep, I definitely appreciate being treated right by a gentleman. I only used one of my head conversations because it was a really, really good topic. lol. You'll be one of the first to know about future dates, not to worry. :)
